biography
¿Who's The Cuban? is a Latin Rock Fusion music band formed in 2017 between Nancy and Paris. The musicians share the irresistible desire to mix the essence of Cuban music with hints of rock, pop and psychedelia.
After the release of the first album "Circo Circo" in 2019, the band has now welcomed a new duo on vocals - the Colombian singer Pao Barreto (The Bongo Hop, Cumbia Ya) and the Cuban trumpeter Dayron Ramirez Hernandez (Yuri Buenaventura).
With this new team, the septet has been performing in France at the Cabaret Vert, Au Fil des Voix, Convivencia and Tempo Latino festivals and also abroad. The group has also toured in Canada (Festival d'Été de Québec, Kultrùn Festival) and Cuba (Havana, Pinar Del Rio, Matanzas, Varadero). In late 2019, in association with the Nancy Jazz Pulsations festival the group created the "¿Who's The Cuban? Orchestra", a Latin jazz big band adaptation of their compositions. This resulted in the album "Circo Live", recorded live and released on October 3, 2020.
In 2022, ¿Who's The Cuban? take the mix of their influences even further and assert a more personal and audacious style with the release of 2 EPs: "Nunca Mataré" & "Summer Tape". These records paved the way for the release of "Pafata" on February 3, 2023, the 2nd album of this group selected by RFI Talents and the Au Fil Des Voix festival.
The 9 tracks take us on a trip of thousands of kilometres - from the Caribbean to Africa and then from Africa to Europe. The group crosses roads, overlaps them and, like the music that inspired it, combines styles to create its very own.
